Sixteen cents is not much land for four homes, and the temptation on a plot this size is to put up four identical boxes facing the same way. We spent most of the design time avoiding that.

The four homes sit at slightly different angles, each one turned a few degrees off its neighbour so that no window looks directly into another. The gaps that opens up became small private courts, one per house, which pull light into the middle of plans that are otherwise quite deep. Two homes got a double-height living room; the other two traded that for a larger terrace upstairs.

All four were handed over in 2022 and are lived in by families who, between them, have since planted the shared entrance far better than we drew it. The project is complete and sold out.
